NEMA expands distribution of KSrelief food donations to 8,000 displaced people in Borno State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has begun the second phase of food distribution from items donated by the King Salman Humanitarian and Relief Center (KSrelief) to 8,000 IDP households in four camps. and the host community in Borno State.

NEMA CEO Mustapha Habib Ahmed, who announced the distribution in Maiduguri on Thursday, said that by the end of the second distribution period, approximately 16,000 IDP households in Borno state will benefit from the donation. food donation by KSrelief.

The first phase of food distribution will be carried out in December 2022, He said the distribution will be done at four camps located around Maiduguri, namely: Muna Kumburi, Gongulon, Madinatu I and Madinatu II. These, he said, complement the previous distribution in December 2022, in which about 8,000 households benefited in five camps in El-Miskin, Doro, Ashiri, Shuwarin and Nganzai. NEMA’s DG, represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Hajiya Fatima Suleiman Kasim, stated that each household should have a 59.8 kg food basket, including 25 kg of rice; 25 kg of beans; 4kg Masa vita powder 2kg tomato sauce; liters of peanut oil; 1 kg of salt and 0.8 kg of maggi cubes.

While appreciating the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammad Bin Salman for the donation made through NEMA’s KS, DG relief, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, said this gesture will last a long time in a way that benefits displaced people and complements the federal government’s efforts.

He said “our partnership with KSrelief dates back to 2018. Between 2018 and 2021, the Centre donated relief items (food baskets) to some Internally Displaced persons in Borno, Yobe and Zamfara States.”

He further that “KSrelief has been very benevolent to the Country. Interventions have been beneficial as evident from the positive testimonies from the IDPs.”

Food distribution is performed by NEMA staff in coordination with SEMA staff from Borno State directly to IDPs where they reside in the camps.
