NGO Africa Watch is an independent, nonprofit media initiative dedicated to investigative journalism, human rights reporting, and development issues across Africa. For over five years, our newsroom has delivered impactful stories—from conflict zones to communities facing humanitarian crises—amplifying local voices and shining a light on underreported challenges.
Our mission is to hold decision-makers accountable, promote transparency in the humanitarian and development sectors, and empower vulnerable communities through factual, in-depth reporting.
As a donor-funded organization, we adhere to sustainable journalism values that emphasize long-term social impact, environmental awareness, and the integrity of the news ecosystem. This means we focus on issues like climate change, governance, and social inclusion while also ensuring our journalism remains financially and ethically viable for future generations. We are nonpartisan and public-interest oriented – our content serves the public good rather than any political or commercial agenda. In 2022, NGO Africa Watch was honored as the “Best Non-Profit Media Publication” at the African Excellence Awards (hosted by MEA Markets), a testament to our commitment to excellence and impact.
Our Audience: We write primarily for social workers, humanitarian professionals, policymakers, and engaged citizens across the globe. By providing context-rich analysis and on-the-ground perspectives, we aim to inform those who design and implement policies or programs. Readers rely on NGO Africa Watch for credible information that can guide social interventions, humanitarian response, and governance reforms. Whether it’s a report on a human rights violation or an investigation into development projects, our reporting is crafted to be insightful and actionable for those working to drive positive change.
Our Partnerships: Collaboration is central to who we are. NGO Africa Watch is a member of the Sustainable Journalism Partnership, reflecting our pledge to uphold resilient and responsible media practices worldwide. We also partner with sector-specific initiatives like the Coalition of Fisheries Transparency – supporting efforts to increase openness and accountability in natural resource management – and Climate X Health, which addresses the intersection of climate change and public health. These partnerships broaden our expertise and reach, allowing us to tackle complex issues through a multidisciplinary lens. We work closely with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), civil society groups, and subject matter experts across Africa to source stories and insights from the field. All content is rigorously reviewed by our editors to ensure it meets our high standards of objectivity and clarity, regardless of the source.
Funding and Independence: NGO Africa Watch is funded by philanthropic donors and grants. However, we maintain absolute editorial independence in all our work. We have put safeguards in place to ensure that no donor or partner influences our journalism. Our editorial decisions are driven solely by the public interest and the news value of a story – never by donor preferences. We disclose our funding sources and affiliations on our platform in the spirit of transparency. By being open about who supports us, we “walk the talk” on transparency and bolster public trust in our integrity. Ultimately, our allegiance is to the truth and to the communities we serve. This ethos underpins everything we do at NGO Africa Watch.
