STATEMENT ON THE ALTERATIONS MADE ON THE VOTERS ROLL ADDRESSING CONCERNS

The Election Resource Centre (ERC) commends the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for addressing concerns raised by the ERC and other stakeholders regarding anomalies and inconsistencies found in the January 2022 Voters’ Roll and in the spirit of transparency, publishing the changes.

The ZEC through Government Gazette, General Notice 1331E of 2022 and General Notice 1411C of 2022 published alterations made to the voters’ roll to correct errors contained. The General Notices amongst others addressed errors which included addresses found stated as “Unnamed” and “Unknown” which could not be verified.

The ERC had previously raised concerns around such anomalies as they could not be verified, highlighting that such inconsistencies in the voters’ roll negatively impact the quality of elections. The ERC reiterates that ZEC must main­tain the integ­rity of the voters’ roll by addressing stakeholder concerns.

The ERC wishes to remind the public that any voter who may have an objection to the alteration/correction to lodge an objection, at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Head Office or at the respective Commission Provincial and District Offices by 7 July 2022.

The ERC additionally takes this opportunity to note that the Commission is yet to avail to stakeholders the voters’ roll that closed on the 30 May 2022 as per General Notice 1147B of 2022 and calls on the Commission to avail the roll.
